Talk about hobbies and personal interests: It’s a good move to ask someone of their hobbies and personal interests. This again boosts the other person to talk about themselves. You can ask the other person about their hobbies, what they do in their free time, their likes and dislikes, whether they like sports or not, whether they like some genre of movies and music, etc. You can also talk about your own hobbies, interests, like and dislikes in return.

Pick proper words and respond thoughtfully to someone who remains awkward or appear to be shy: It’s very important to choose your words with great sensitivity and thought while you are having a conversation with someone, especially if you do not know them that well. Human beings have a general tendency of generalizing or forming a stereotype based on personal biases on the basis of the words used by the other person or their attitude. Therefore, it is imperative to choose your words properly and also respond with sensitivity and maturity. Also, it is important to know how to talk in case your conversation partner is unresponsive, awkward or appears shy and uncomfortable. Try not to push them in case they do not want to open up after a certain level.
