Tenses Rules
SUBJECT – VERB – OBJECT
Most of the sentences in English language follow the pattern of Subject – Verb – Object, which in its abbreviated form is called as SVO. In this pattern the subject comes first and is followed by verb and then Object. In the sentence “He plays cricket”, “he” is subject, “plays” is verb and “cricket” is object.
The subject is defined as the “doer” of the action. It can be identified by asking question using “Who” to the sentence, which replies “Subject” as the answer.
For example: The children drink milk. In this sentence the children are doing something and thus called as “Subject”. The subject can be a noun (Example: John ate an apple), a pronoun (Example: I will meet him) or a gerund (Example: Smoking is dangerous).
Verbis defined as the word that shows action. In the sentence “The children drink milk”, “drink” is the verb. The verb can be changed according to the tenses. The previous example can be changed in simple past tense as “The children drank milk” and in simple future tense as “The children will drink milk”.
Object is defined as the “receiver” of the action or action verbs.
For example: We are going to the market. In this sentence the receiver of verb “going” is “market”. Thus “market” is the object.
